Verizon’s Pay-as-You-Go Prepaid Plans

Posted on February 03, 2013

As all smartphone users realize by now, it’s quite costly to pay monthly bills. In order to cut costs, Verizon Wireless launched 2 prepaid plans for people on a budget.

These plans are available for different 3G smartphones that run BlackBerry, iOS and Android operating systems. They offer unlimited texts and talk on 2 data plans: 2 GB for a price of $70 or 500 MB for $60.

While such price points are  more pricey compared to T-Mobile, which gives a $30 prepaid plan for “unlimited” data on 3G, although the carrier will throttle connections that go over 5GB per month. T-Mobile’s 3G network, which is based on HSPA technology, was even found to be faster than Verizon’s 3G network.

For those that go over their data allowance within the 30-day period, 1GB of data can be purchased for $20. Adding money to your account can be done up to one month in advance.

Do You Need To Replace Your Running Shoes? MilestonePod Knows Best

Posted on January 18, 2013

Our feet endures too much stress. Once people reach 50 years old, the majority have already walked a whopping 75,000 miles — or maybe more than that if you are an athlete or a runner. Thus, it’s so important to buy running shoes that will keep your knees and feet healthy.

Ideally, running shoes should be replaced after running for 400 miles. And you don’t need to worry about how you can keep track of the number of miles you ran because the MilestonePod will do it for you!

This is a tracking device attached to your running shoes and then, it warns you before they wear down that you need to buy a new pair already.

While your running shoes may still look new, running gives them constant pounding which makes the materials worn out and unable to provide protection and support. This significant reduction in absorbing shock often results to injury.

MilestonePod lets you track your mileage so you can replace your running shoes at the right time, not so late (which may cause injury) and not so soon (which is a waste of money).

Does your kid have 20/20 vision when they wear eyeglasses but still feel not satisfied with how they see? You might find high-definition lenses a great option!

At times, higher-order aberrations may have an impact on your kid’s eyesight, even if their prescription glasses completely correct their farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism.  Such aberrations might be caused by the optical characteristics of the eyes or may be due to the optical restrictions of regular glass lenses.

The latest advances when it comes to lens manufacturing have paved the way to the creation of high-definition eyeglasses that correct such aberrations, possibly giving your kid sharper vision than they have ever had before. These glass lenses are created to give sharper vision in any lighting conditions and lessen glare at night.

How Video Streaming Is Slowly Killing the DVD

Posted on December 02, 2012

Is the DVD going to die off just like what happened to the VHS tape and the LaserDisc?

It is becoming evident that video streaming is slowly killing its great predecessors. In 2012, it is approximated that there are 3.4 billion online movie views, compared to only 2.4 billion disc views.

Streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime have racked up millions and millions of subscribers. Actually, it’s very simple to know why — watching a movie online costs only a fraction of the cost of watching a film on disc, or sometimes it’s even for free!

The popularity of digital streaming is not  necessarily a good thing for production companies. Films in their physical form are still much more profitable compared to streamed versions.  Also, digital piracy is a flourishing industry in itself. Last year, Thor, Fast Five, and The Hangover II were downloaded illegally over 25 million times.

Whatever happens to the future of DVDs, it’s a smart move to preserve your DVD collection. If you want them to still be seen by your grandchildren, store them in a good quality DVD cabinet. Go to dvdstoragecabinet.org and pick the best storage for your much-loved DVDs!

The Role of Tech Startups During Sandy

Posted on November 04, 2012

Although a lot of tech firms and startups do not have Duracell or AT&T resources, they may alter their distinctive services in methods that help the needy. After Hurricane Sandy struck New York, there are firms that  did exactly that.

Since there are no subways, black car drivers of Uber had a huge increase in demand. Uber needed to pay their drivers twice their usual rate for them to pick up the customers. Initially, the company passed the price increase onto its clients through “surge pricing.” But after a public outcry, the firm took on the expenses itself.

Over 20,000 Airbnb listings are available in areas that were hit by Sandy. Airbnb waives all the fees for such spaces. The firm encourages its whole community to lend a helping hand to people who have been stranded or in dire need because of the calamity.

The technology community of New York has taken a hit from Sandy with lost power, flooded offices, downed data centers and almost lifeless subway networks. However, local co-working companies and spaces are doing the initiative to find room for the refugees of Sandy, giving office space and Internet for workers who need it.
